Bibliography

For a partial list of daimyo just prior to and after the Battle of Sekigahara (1600) see Sir George Bailey Sansom's A History of Japan: 1334-1615, Appendix III. There is another list of daimyo in Sir Rutherford Alcock's The Capital of the Tycoon, Appendix D, published in 1863, but this list is neither complete nor accurate.

The following includes fiction, and are listed here for the historical information contained therein.

According to articles 51 and 57 of the copyright laws of Japan, under the jurisdiction of the Government of Japan all non-photographic works enter the public domain 50 years after the death of the creator (there being multiple creators, the creator who dies last) or 50 years after publication for anonymous or pseudonymous authors or for works whose copyright holder is an organization.

Photographic images published before December 31st 1956, or photographed before 1946 and not published for 10 years thereafter, under jurisdiction of the Government of Japan, are considered to be public domain according to article 23 of old copyright law of Japan and article 2 of supplemental provision of copyright law of Japan.

The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain, and that claims to the contrary represent an assault on the very concept of a public domain."
