Notable Ancestors
Son of Akamatsu Norisuke, was the first who took the name of Arima from the
district in Settsu where he settled towards the end of the 14th century. He
constructed the castle of Sanda, which was occupied by his descendants for
about 200 years.
Served Hideyoshi, who gave his the castle of Miki (Harima). He joined
afterwards the party of Ieyasu, who raised his revenues to 20,000 koku).

Arima
Toyouji (1570-1642)
2nd son of Noriyori, had the title Genba no kami. In 1600 he fought at
Akasaka (Mino) against the troops of Oda Hidenobu. After the campaign he
received the fief of Fukuchiyama (Tanba -- 80,000 koku). He participated in
the siege of Osaka (1615) and brought back 57 heads of enemies as trophies. In
1620 he was transferred to Kurume (Chikugo -- 210,000 koku), where his
descendants resided.

Tachibana
Muneshige (1567-1642)
Son of Takahashi Shigetane, was adopted by Tachibana Shigetsura and
inherited Tachibana's castle (Chikugo). In 1586 he defeated the Shimazu, and
Hideyoshi gave him Yanagawa (Chikugo -- 120,000 koku) in fief. He took part in
the expedition to Korea, and with Kobayakawa Takakage gained a victory over
the Chinese army. Later he rescued Kato Kiyomasa, who was besieged in Ura-san
(Ulsan), and enabled him to rout his assailants. In 1600 he sided against
Ieyasu and was dispossessed; sometime after he was again taken into favor, and
in 1611 received the fief of Tanakura (Mutsu -- 20,000 koku), and in 1620
was re-established in Yanagawa (Chikugo -- 109,000 koku). He helped to repress the Shimabara revolt
(1637-1638).
His descendants remained at Yanagawa.
